Travel Journal - Rome ¦ Roma

continued

Our guided tour the following day included the Coliseum and Vatican.

Colosseo Lookout

Awe struck by Rome!

The people are talking at me and around me and I haven't a clue. The motor scooters zipping around, the honking horns, suits on bikes talking on cell phones, street cafes and everything is huge except the espresso and hotel rooms. The statues, the parks, the doors and windows, chandeliers, gardens, and Italian gestures.
With the help of our city guide I planned the next day's walk. He told some great mythology and Roman stories too. For instance, a female Pope during the 11th century who had a baby during a procession. Jupiter and Zeus who turned to animals to get their sexual partners and were both male and female. What a kick.

Unfortunately, the Borghese Museum didn´t reopen until I was back home for 3 days. I can´t tell you the disappointment. Bernini's work totally mesmerizes me. To read more about Bernini click here
